In the 1960s, Minnesota-native, Mark Naftalin, hooked up with Paul Butterfield in Chicago, earning a place in the Blues Hall of Fame for his playing on the Butterfield Band's first album. Mark, a standard bearer for the traditional roots of the music, has toured and recorded with top blues and r&b players, including Percy Mayfield, John Lee Hooker, Lowell Fulson, James Cotton, and Tracy Nelson. The San Francisco Chronicle praised Mark as "a brilliant pianist who puts a touch of genius in his blues," and the Chicago Reader calls him "one of the most vital bluesmen of his generation." Mark, who performs solo this evening, now resides in the Bay Area where he hosts KALW-FM' s award-winning weekly radio program, Blues Power Hour. |
