Grammy winning folk music living legend

Ramblin' Jack Elliott weaves his amazing stories in and out of song, bringing to light a land full of the characters he has encountered over the past half century and their exploits. Learning his craft from Woody Guthrie, Jack was a leading figure in the Greenwich Village folk scene, influencing a generation of musicians including Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. Typical of Jack is the story of the afternoon he serenaded a group of schoolchildren on a London railway platform. Years later one of those children, rock star Mick Jagger, confessed that the encounter prompted him to buy his first guitar. In 1996 Jack won a Grammy for his album, South Coast, and in 1998 he received the National Medal of Arts in a ceremony held at The White House. More recently, he is the subject of The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack, a critically acclaimed documentary film directed by his daughter, Aiyana. His latest album The Long Ride (Hightone), showcases Jack' s soulful interpretations of classic and modern western tunes.
