Gifted with the ability to summon crystal clear melodies from his drums, Anindo Chatterjee evolved into one of the world’s greatest tabla player and continues to give new voice to his instrument. Inspired by his uncle, Pandit Biswanath Chatterjee, Chatterjee began playing tabla at the age of five. Studying briefly with Ustad Afaq Hussain Khan of the Lucknow Gharana, he advanced to Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh, with whom he studied for three decades. The recipient of the prestigious President’s award in 1970, Anindo Chatterjee became the first tabla player to perform in the House of Commons 20 years later.

Anubrata was nurtured from a very young age to be a tabla player. He had the rare fortune of being the youngest and the last Ganda-Bandh disciple of the great guru, Padmabhushan-Deshkottam Jnan Prakash Ghosh in1992. Subsequently, he continued his training under the gifted tutelage of his father Anindo Chatterjee. Anubrata Chatterjee made his debut as an accompanying artist with the legendary Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia and since then, has gone on to successfully accompany living legends of Indian Classical Music and other respected musicians all over the world. Anubrata has proved himself both as a soloist and as an accompanist, by his consummate tabla renditions. He has also given numerous memorable duet performances along with his father. He has built upon his father’s style and expanded his own repertoire to display an amalgamation of power, grace, skill, and superb tonal clarity.
