Celebrating Women in Blues from Ma Rainey to Bonnie Raitt

Pamela Rose and her Wild Women of Song musicians (Tammy Hall, Ruth Davies, Pat Wilder, Daria Johnson and Kristen Strom) perform musical treasures as they tell stories, punctuated by rare historical film footage.  The audience is transported to the early roots of America’s most enduring art form, and travel through the decades in a vibrant concert event.

The BLUES IS A WOMAN ensemble also rolls out a brand new Cast Recording at Freight & Salvage.

The piece is written by San Francisco educator and vocalist Pamela Rose, with creative direction by Jayne Wenger.  Rose’s previous work Wild Women of Song: Great Gal Composers of the Jazz Era shines a light on key women in early jazz and toured nationally for five years to critical acclaim:

“An extravagantly entertaining and informative show!” Andy Gilbert, Berkeleyside
