Due to COVID-19/Coronavirus and the Bay Area’s shelter-in-place orders, the Freight & Salvage is temporarily closed (we’ll be back soon!) and Berkeley Bluegrass Festival has been canceled. But because we miss you, and the music, and our beloved Bluegrass musicians, we’ve thrown together a small livestream performance featuring several of the artists that were scheduled for this year’s festival. Trailer: You Gave Me A Song Documentary
We had planned to screen the film You Gave Me A Song, an intimate portrait of old-time music pioneer Alice Gerrard and her remarkable, unpredictable journey creating and preserving traditional music. We’re pleased that Alice Gerrard will join us for the livestream in a Q&A with Suzy Thompson. To catch the documentary, look for a screening planned during Berkeley Old Time Music Convention, September 22-27, 2020. Alice Gerrard will also perform at BOTMC.
We have an opportunity to band together in support of those whose music builds our community. The Freight is dedicated to highlighting the artists whose shows have been postponed/rescheduled/or canceled in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic (artist names are linked to their sites where applicable).
